Community-based Education
WSU Vancouver serves as a clinical site for the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. The College of Medicine uses a distributive model of medical education, which differs from traditional models that revolve around a university-owned, teaching hospital. Instead, students’ clinical experiences take place in communities near WSU campuses across the state: Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities and Vancouver. Students learn in a variety of hospitals and health care settings, allowing them to receive training in the kinds of environments where they will ultimately practice as physicians.
Learning Across the State
Students enrolled in the medical education program at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine spend their first two years on the WSU Spokane campus. During that time, they begin preceptoring with clinical faculty during Clinical Campus Weeks throughout their preclerkship years.
Their final two years of medical school take place at one of four WSU distributed clinical regions: Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities or Vancouver.

Medical students who come to Vancouver are supervised by the associate dean for clinical education and supported by clerkship staff working at at WSU Vancouver.
